Slovenia has 93 species of fish swimming in its waters. Of those 93, there are 33 on the endangered list, hence protected and about 25 species that are of interest to fisherman. Endemic to Soca river is the queen of trout – the Marble Trout and the biggest are Pike and Dunabe Salmon or Hucho Hucho that would be very close in similarity to Taimen.

Fishing for species is regulated and allowed in seasons. Hucho Hucho and Pike are fished for in winter months, from November to end of January and the rest of Salmonids and Cyprinids that are generally fished from March to November time frame.
